November was in full swing, the days had become shorter, the nights colder and the Page One bellies had grown restless. The vote had come down, Empire, Portland’s finest Dim-Sum style restaurant would have to put up with eighteen extremely hungry workers. With coats adorned and our laces tied, we were off to 575 Congress St. Portland, ME. The aroma of dim-sum was in the air, our hungry group was ready for cocktails and sustenance.
Empire’s succulent Garlic Green Beans and their Roasted Peanuts were the first to arrive. The second dish to reach the table was the incredible Spicy Pork Belly Buns that Elise describes as “delightfully spicy with just the right amount of sauce!”. I managed to sneak some Baby Boy Choy which was delicious and melted in my mouth. Erich’s “Flounder de Awesome” turned heads as it was brought to the table, head intact. He said it was equivalent to climbing Everest… or a mountain of Flounder.
After a couple of rounds of cocktails, Pork Buns and Kung Pao Chicken (which Corey said was like riding a Lamborghini, crashing it and hopping in another one), we re-adorned our jackets with positive feelings and bellies and sauntered back to work, taking in the last days of temperatures above freezing.
Most-Favorited Dish: Kung Pao Chicken
Honorable Mention: Duck Buns
85% of Page One employees would enthusiastically return to the Empire Chinese Kitchen.
