There is nowhere better to eat in New England than Portland, Maine. Our fair city has steadily been gaining a well-deserved reputation, and with good reason. Nowhere in the region will you find a more concentrated group of highly talented chefs creating damn good food with kick-ass ingredients. Sorry, Boston, this is one area you can’t touch. Want to know why? One word: accessibility. You can go almost anywhere and feel good about being yourself. The places with a dress code aren’t worth going to. We keep it real, just like Walter’s.
Upon walking in, we were treated to some extremely sexy music that put us all in the mood for a good time. The foreplay began as we viewed the drink menu that included a variety of infused liquors mixed by someone that knows what he or she is doing. The French Ginger was an insanely strong vehicle that launched my taste buds into overdrive. Other drinks that were a hit included the Kentucky Creekside (lovely and warming on a rainy day), and the X-Rated Tango.
Our wait staff was friendly and efficient. They were helpful and patient with us, which is as much as we can ask for, as we’re such a large group. Most of us got apps, which were in a word, perfect. From fried pickles to calamari, we were all thrilled with our pre-dinner snacks.
As for the entrees, how do you describe what perfection tastes like? Fish Tacos were a stand out, as was the lamb flat bread sandwich, Kobe beef burger, and the beef bowls. I could go into further detail about who liked what, but I’ll tell you what, when the Page One team all agrees that a place is amazing, just do yourself a favor and go there. Seriously, stop reading this and just go to Walter’s right now. Then come back and leave a comment about how right we were.
